What’s it all about?
Folkestone Short Film Festival is a short film competition by Folkestone International Film & TV Festival.
All of the films are submitted by filmmakers all around the world via FilmFreeway.
At the event a judging panel will choose the following awards:
Best Director;
Best Cinematography;
Best Storyline;
Best Soundtrack;
Best Actor;
Best Editing
The winners of each category will be presented with a coveted Folkestone Short Film Festival Trophy.
Each screened short film is also voted on by the audience and the film with the highest average score will be awarded the Best Film Award.
From Humble Beginnings
Beginning life as a one-off event at the Lime Bar Café, Folkestone Short Film Festival has grown into an internationally acclaimed event.
A regular customer at Lime Bar Café had booked to screen a film one evening. At the eleventh hour after reviewing the film the proprietors realised the film was not suitable for public showing so cancelled the event. Gary JJ Spate, festival director, stepped in with hours to spare to put on an alternative event showcasing the very best comedy short films. The event was a great success and that evening the Folkestone Short Film Festival (then known as Hellfire Short Film Festival) was born.
Since that fateful in evening we have received over 4,000 submissions from 143 countries and screened over 180 short films.
