Dying in Space
The Hellfire Short Film Festival 2016-17 celebrates new and emerging filmmakers around the world, with the winner of the first round announced after a screening at the Lime Bar Cafe, Folkestone, on Wednesday 17 August 2016.
The first round of the new format Hellfire Short Film Festival took place on Wednesday evening with ten short films on show all vying for a spot in next summer’s Grand Final.
Round One was general submissions, ie not genre-specific.
The films on show were (in order of screening):

They Will All Die In Space
Nympho’s Diary
Commune
Each short film was judged by the audience based on the following criteria: Direction, Acting, Script/Storyline, Editing, Visuals, Soundtrack. With a maximum of 30 points on offer.
THE WINNER OF THE
HELLFIRE SHORT FILM FESTIVAL
ROUND ONE IS:
THEY WILL ALL DIE IN SPACE
The winning short film, directed by Javier Chillon, told the story of a futuristic starship Tantalus drifting through space. It picked up a score of 24.75 out of 30 and goes through to our Grand Final.
We also have two early wildcards:
BRIAN AND THE GRIM REAPER (Eben Skilleter) 24 / 30
ONLY HUMAN (Jesse Richards) 23.5 / 30
Over the course of the several rounds the wildcards will go into a table and highest scoring ones will be included in the Grand Final. The number of wildcard entries is dependent on running time of the round winners.
Also shown at the event was the trailer for Silent Studios’ film DEVIL’S PLAYGROUND.
ROUND TWO (Comedy Theme) will take place on Wednesday 28th September at Lime Bar Cafe, Folkestone, UK
ROUND THREE (Horror Theme) will take place on Wednesday 26th October at Lime Bar Cafe, Folkestone, UK
